External Stowage Platform 2

ESP-2 was the payload aboard Space Shuttle Discovery STS-114 mission launched on Jul 26, 2005. It is much larger than ESP-1 with eight FRAM sites for eight spare parts (ORUs). ESP-2 is attached to the Quest Airlock.

The failed CMG from FRAM 5 was returned to Earth by STS-122 and was mounted on an ICC-Lite payload rack in the cargo bay.

During an EVA on STS-129 mission (Nov 2009), the Airlock module shields were packed behind the Pump Module.

The Airlock meteoroid shields were removed during an EVA and returned to Earth aboard STS-131.

Pump Module (PM) (SN0004), initially installed on FRAM-1 during STS-121, was removed on August 17, 2010 by the Exp.24 crew and installed on S1 Truss, replacing the original (failed) PM SN0002. The failed unit had been temporarily stored on an ORU site on the MBS, then moved to ESP-2 by the STS-133 crew.

The failed Pump Module was returned to Earth by STS-135 on July 13, 2011.

On Aug 2012, Exp.32 swapped the MBSU from FRAM-4 with a failed MBSU-1 from the SO truss.

On Jan 2013, the DEXTRE robot (SPDM) relocated ORUs between ESP-2 and ELC-2.

On Aug 2013, the HTV-4 carried the new MBSU-3 to be installed on ESP-2.

Exp.41 (EVA-27)

On Oct 2014, another failed Pump Module that was temporarily stored on the MBS POA for 9 months, was transferred to ESP-2 during this EVA.

On April 25, 2017, the MBSU-2 on S0 truss failed.

DEXTRE swapped the failed MBSU-2 unit with the new MBSU-3 from ESP-2.

On Aug 8, 9 and 10th, 2017 the failed MBSU from FRAM 4 was installed via robotics on the Japanese Airlock for internal repairs.

On Nov 6, 2017, the recently repaired spare MBSU was transferred from the Japanese Experiment Module Airlock and installed on ESP-2 empty MBSU FRAM.

LEE/UTA swap

On Nov 15, 2017, the SSRMS and Dextre moved the UTA from ESP-2 to ELC-1, and moved the LEE from ELC-1 to ESP-2, in preparation for US EVA-47.

On Jan 10, 2018 the Dextre robot moved the spare Yaw Joint unit (Pitch/Roll) from ESP-2 FRAM 5 to the EOTP as part of preparation for more work on the Canadarm 2.
