Here is the model representing the Orion capsule on its first mission, the EFT-1 which was successfully launched on a Delta IV on Dec 2014.
At the beginning of this project, I envisioned making the Delta IV rocket in 1:96 scale as an addittion to my model collection, but time has gotten in the way and decided to give priority and to concentrate in the Orion capsule itself with the Second Stage in full glory.
This is the famous picture that captured my inspiration for this project, the Orion EFT-1 in orbit.
Here is the Orion capsule.
The capsule can be glued permanently or simply can be hold in place thanks to the small white umbilical connector.
Here are more pictures of the Orion and the dummy Service Module used for this mission.
Here are photos showing the Service Module fairing. This model kit has the fairing for launch configuration that goes for a Delta IV, and another fairing in separate parts for an orbit configuration during fairing separation.
Now here is the beautiful Launch Abort System or LAS, which covers the capsule and serves to separate the Orion capsule from the rocket in case of an emergency.
But the most striking feature of this model is actually the Second Stage for Orion. This Second stage has a 5 meter diameter LH2 tank and a 4 meter diameter LO2 tank.
These next photos show all the detail of the Second stage.
And now this next photo is the same as the photo that inspired me to do this project.
